Tell us a bit about yourself?

Hi, I鈥檓 Poppy! I鈥檓 a Capital Adequacy Analyst, on the听FinanceAdvanced Apprenticeship听program*. My 麻豆社 journey began in 2020 within the Service Management team, before rotating into my current role in 2022. As part of my role, key tasks include running key month-end deliverables and analytical reviews. I鈥檓 also responsible for creating our monthly review pack that we send to our stakeholders.

Since completing my AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting with grade Distinction, I鈥檓 currently studying towards my AAT Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting. And a non-work-related fact about me? I competed at the Olympic Copperbox stadium with my cheerleading team.

What made 麻豆社 stand out?

I always knew I wanted to go down the apprenticeship route instead of university. I was keen to gain professional experience, so I had to decide which apprenticeship was right for me. A huge selling point for me was the firms position as the world's largest and only truly global wealth manager - this really helped showcased just how successful the firm is! Their culture is also people focused, there鈥檚 so many useful initiatives to support employee鈥檚 development, such as the 麻豆社 university. I was confident I鈥檇 be joining a great firm that would help me continue to develop my career beyond my apprenticeship.

How did you know which program was right for you?

I applied for the Advanced Apprenticeship in Finance as I enjoy working with numbers and math has always been my strong point. The program takes place over 18 months, which I felt was enough time to learn more about the firm and decide if this is the right place to build my career in finance.

Any advice for students considering the apprenticeship route?

Do it! I鈥檓 so happy I chose the apprenticeship route over other 鈥榮chool leaver鈥 options. I鈥檓 gaining great qualifications while experiencing the working environment and developing a true understanding of how businesses work. Despite working for such a large bank, I feel truly valued as an apprentice. I鈥檓 surrounded by amazing colleagues from a range of backgrounds who are happy to support me on my journey. The program really invests in you, not just through the qualifications you can achieve but also the learning opportunities provided.

Top tips for acing our assessment process?

  • Do your research! Be sure to actively look into the firm and what to expect on the program. It's also a good idea to learn more about our culture, history, and objectives.
  • Gain a better understanding of how the firm operates. This鈥檒l be useful during the assessment process as it鈥檒l help you answer interview questions and showcase why you'd be a good fit. It may also help you decide if this is the right place to start your career.
  • Be yourself! They鈥檙e not expecting previous work experience. Don鈥檛 try to be who you think the perfect candidate would be, instead show why you're the perfect candidate!听听

How were you supported with the transition from sixth form?

The HR team were great, they were regularly in contact and kept me updated on any next steps throughout. During my first week, I had induction sessions to help me prepare for joining my team (so don鈥檛 worry you won鈥檛 be thrown straight into your day-to-day role!). I also received an apprentice handbook which had an itinerary for the week, so I knew exactly what to expect.

I enjoyed several opportunities to connect with insightful colleagues who were happy to share their career journeys and experience at the firm. I was also allocated a buddy; this is a past apprentice you can learn from and go to with more informal questions.

What are you looking forward to post program?

I鈥檓 looking forward to exploring further opportunities. Once I complete my Level 4 qualifications, I can progress onto my level 7 CIMA qualification, as part of the 鈥榚xcelling scholar鈥 scheme offered to all employees. If I decide not to pursue any additional qualifications, I will become a full-time employee and can enjoy offerings such as the internal mobility scheme, which allows you to explore new roles and teams within the firm.

Best way to balance work and study?

麻豆社 is great at helping you balance work responsibilities and study time. We've got organised study days to ensure that a portion of our time is spent on learning. I鈥檝e found planning tasks in advance and keeping my calendar up to date super useful. The training provider also gives you a study planner highlighting key course dates, I recommend going through these dates with your line manager to help prevent any work clashes.
